With over 38 years of professional experience, Tim excels in executive planning for highly compensated individuals – specializing in the implementation and continuation of excess plans while maintaining relationships with top life and disability insurance (DI) producers and carriers; ensuring a choice of solutions for individual and business clients.
In June 1998 – after 17 years with The Principal Financial Group as brokerage manager in both their Memphis, TN and Atlanta, GA offices – Tim formed T. J. O’Brien & Associates, Inc. and became a member firm of The Plus Group, Inc.® – America’s Premier Disability Insurance Marketing Organization. During his tenure with Principal, he built one of their most profitable brokerage units – qualifying for the Management Achievement Round Table eight consecutive years; three times as a member of Principal’s Inner Circle. In 1998, Tim changed his relationship with Principal by becoming a brokerage general agent and opening his own full service, independent brokerage general agency specializing in the sale of executive benefits, life insurance, income protection, business overhead expense, buy-sell coverages, key person needs, retirement security and business loan protection – with a focus on small to medium-sized businesses and their owners/highly compensated executives. On a daily basis, he is responsible for education/training, case design, overseeing insurance products, conducting sales calls with producers, updating product information/current status of pending business, advising producers and running a business.
Early in his career, Tim developed an interest in the sales and product development aspects of the insurance business. A Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), he is a licensed life, health and annuity agent and a member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals (SFSP), the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) and the International Disability Income Society (IDIS). He attributes his success to a disciplined work ethic, extensive training and experience.

Brett joined T. J. O’Brien & Associates, Inc. in June, 2011 after managing a bar & restaurant for the prior year. He graduated from Clemson University in the fall of 2009 with his B.S. degree in Architecture and obtained his Life, Accident & Sickness insurance license in the spring of 2011. Since joining his father’s firm, Brett has thrown himself completely into his chosen career, spending countless hours in training both locally as well as in various home offices – establishing himself as an expert resource for all things involving income protection (Individual DI, Overhead Expense, DI Buy Out, Key Person DI, Retirement Security, Business Loan Protection, etc.). Additionally, Brett completed the testing requirements to obtain his Disability Income Associate (DIA) designation through the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU). Repeatedly named a Top Advisor under 40 by the Atlanta Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA), Brett’s responsibilities include growing traditional brokerage relationships as well as providing a resource as a broker’s broker across the United States.
